For families with kids in hospital, every day is a countdown to getting back to the life they love.
"When you’re in hospital, that is all you are waiting for. The end goal is home," says Amy Purling, mum to James and Jack (pictured).
For Amy, bringing Jack home from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital as a newborn preemie was just the beginning - ongoing health challenges mean regular admissions, tests, and treatments for Jack.
"We know the hospital is where Jack needs to be when he is unwell, but that does not make it any easier. We still count down the days until we can go home."
Kick it for Kids is all about helping kids get out of hospital and back to their families, their backyards and their footy!
This 2025 AFL Gather Round, every dollar you donate will have DOUBLE the impact.
Please kick a goal for kids like Jack today.

The Purling family live and breathe footy.
Whether it’s James (8) kicking goals in the backyard, Jack (5) gearing up for his first season of Auskick, or Amy and her husband Scott playing and coaching, they are at their local footy club every single day of the week.
"Footy is not just a game for us. It is part of our routine, our community. It is where we connect."
"James is teaching Jack how to drop the ball onto his boot. They run around, kick to each other and wrestle in the backyard. It is a big part of their bond."
Jack is so full of energy. "He does not stop moving, which is why being stuck in hospital is so hard for him." For him, home is more than just a place. It is where he feels safe. It is where he has his soft toys, his monster trucks, and his routine.
For kids who have spent so much time in hospital, getting home is healing. Amy says, "It's not just about getting home. It is about getting back to normal life, the things they miss."
This 2025 AFL Gather Round, kick a goal for kids and help them get back to their families, their backyards and their footy clubs!
