Their families have generously shared their stories of how the Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation has impacted their lives and supported them through the toughest of times.

Sam's legacy

Challenge 21 is inspired by Sam Roberts and the incredible legacy his family have created since he sadly passed at four years old from a very rare, neurological degenerative condition called Niemann-Pick Disease Type C. Since then, the Roberts family have raised close to $1 million for the Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation to support families like theirs who are going through the challenges of having a sick child in hospital.

In celebration of Sam’s 21st birthday in 2021, together with the Roberts family we launched the inaugural Challenge 21. Sam's parents Marty and Michelle wanted anyone, anywhere to be able to take on a challenge of their choice to support sick kids and their families.

The funds the Roberts family have raised have gone directly to supporting children and families cared for by the Paediatric Palliative Care Service at the Women's and Children's Hospital.
