If you want to make a real difference, this is it.

The playground at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital has supported hundreds of thousands of families over the years, but it is no longer meeting the needs of the children who rely on it.

The current equipment is limited, particularly for children with a disability.

We have the opportunity to build something better. A space that is more inclusive, more accessible and purpose-built for therapy and recovery through play.

This is not just a nice-to-have. It is essential to child-centred care.

It is where play, recovery, learning and connection come together and where children can truly thrive. We’ve got big plans and need to raise $200,000 to bring them to life.

This is the biggest change made to the playground in over a decade. And you can be part of it.

Help us create a space that encourages movement, connection and recovery, and will strengthen the role of play right across the Hospital.

Play your part. Donate now.

Individual donations of $1,000 or more are gratefully recognised on our Donor Recognition Board.

“Sometimes the only way I can get Jack through the doors is by reminding him we can go to the playground.”

Jack is five. He’s been admitted to hospital more times than his mum, Amy, can count.

He lives with a lifelong genetic immune deficiency and has recently been diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Hospital is a big part of his life. So is the playground.

It's where Jack can move, reset, and feel like himself. It's where his family can catch their breath and find some calm in the chaos.

“It’s never just been a playground for Jack,” says Amy. “It’s familiar. It’s safe. It’s how we get through.”

Across the Hospital, play is a vital part of care. It helps children understand what’s happening, reduce anxiety and feel more at ease in an unfamiliar environment. For Jack, it has made a lasting difference.

Your gift will help ensure play remains part of the care experience for Jack and for every child when they need it most.

We want to build a playground that supports therapy, movement, inclusion and recovery. But we cannot build it without you.

Artist impression only. Final design may vary. This image is a visual representation of the proposed playground located on the Play Deck at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

This playground isn’t just important for one child. It matters to thousands.

Every year, more than 300,000 children and families rely on the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. For many of them, the playground is part of that experience. A place to reset between appointments, to recover after treatment, or simply to feel like a child again.

It is used by therapists, Hospital School teachers, siblings and support workers. It is the one space in the Hospital designed entirely for children, and it plays a different role in every child’s journey.

These numbers matter. But behind every one of those families is a child with a story of their own. The playground means something different to each of them. For some, it’s a break. For others, it’s a tool. For many, it’s the one place that feels safe.

For kids like Jack, Deccy, Zahli and Ryan, it’s all of that and more.

For kids like Deccy.

Deccy lives with Leukodystrophy, a neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system. He’s reliant on a wheelchair and receives ongoing care through the hospital’s Paediatric Palliative Care Service. His condition requires regular therapy and complex care, with hospital visits now part of everyday life. Deccy is full of imagination, always finding ways to play.

For kids like Zahli.

Zahli was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer, at age 11. Her family relocated over 700 kilometres from Streaky Bay to Adelaide so she could begin treatment. She’s spent months in hospital, undergone major surgery to remove part of her leg, and is continuing a long course of chemotherapy with incredible resilience.

For kids like Ryan.

Ryan was just over one when a sudden infection turned into a life-threatening emergency. He was flown from Broken Hill to Adelaide, went into cardiac arrest, and later had parts of his legs and hands amputated. After weeks in intensive care and months of rehab, he’s now learning to walk with prosthetics. His strength and determination continue to inspire everyone around him.
