Harry and Jacob’s 11^th birthday

Mum and dad tell us that we are “miracle” babies because we were born prematurely (very early).

We had a condition called twin to twin transfusion syndrome.

Mum flew to Brisbane for an emergency scanning review and a potential operation.

Having an operation at this point could have meant many possible things like losing one or both of us, or us having a disability.

The doctors decided to send mum back to Adelaide, where she was put in hospital to take care of us.

We were born at 30 weeks, but normally babies are born at 40 weeks.

Jacob was 990 grams and Harry was 1,370 grams, which was very light.

We were both put in Humidicribs, which are very special box (incubators), to help us grow safely. We stayed in intensive care for weeks.

We had machines to help us breathe and tubes in our noses to feed us.

Jacob had two blood transfusions and we both found it hard to breathe on our own.

It was scary for our parents.

This year, instead of buying us a present, we would like a small donation towards helping babies and families under the care of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Thank you, it means a lot! J & H
