Raising funds in memory of my friend, Bridget.
Unsurprisingly, Bridget went on to be an extremely well-respected Surgical/Burns nurse at the WCH. Whenever we spoke about her job, I was blown away by her commitment, passion and proficiency (I always told her I found her job terrifying). She stayed the same, with a hilariously dark sense of humour and an instinctive way of putting others first.
Bridget tragically died in 2019, aged 24. Even post her passing however, she has continued to help others through the work of the Bridget McCartan Fund & the Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation. Set up by her parents and brother Rebecca, Danny and Ciaran, this special fund has continued to improve care for injured children by funding burns nurses training scholarships, therapy dogs for Newland Ward and much more.

ABOUT ME:
I am 33 years old, and work for SA Ambulance Service as an Intensive Care Paramedic. I have a beautiful partner, Charlotte, who is a RAH ED nurse; a baby son, William, who is currently unemployed and a kelpie named Douglas who’s main occupation is being bright orange. The track also holds special significance for me as former infantryman of the 10/27 Royal South Australian Regiment - many young men from my former units fought and died on the track.

ABOUT THE TRACK:
The Kokoda Track is a 96km long jungle track, running through the Owen Stanley Ranges in Papua New Guinea. It is a challenging trek involving steep ascents, descents and river crossings. Six hundred and twenty five Australians died during the Kokoda Track Campaign, with 1600 wounded and over 4000 casualties due to disease.
