On September 28th, I'm running a 56k ultra-marathon AGAIN for my son, James, supporting the Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation's investment in research to find a treatment for children with rare brain disorders causing epilepsy. Our goal may seem ambitious, James has taught me the importance of strength, tenacity, and kindness.
Can you help?
OUR STORY
When my wife Kate was pregnant with our second child, we never imagined the road ahead. At 35 weeks, doctors told us our baby’s head was developing on the small side. Thanks to the incredible work of the Genetics Department at the Women's and Children's Hospital James was diagnosed with ASPM-related primary microcephaly at 9 weeks old - an incurable and incredibly rare disorder. There are only 200 known cases worldwide, and just three in Australia.  No doctor could tell us what to expect.
Today, at two years old, James is a happy little boy who loves his childcare and his sister Grace.
The Genetics team at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital has been our lifeline, especially as we are welcoming our 3rd child! I want to give back and support other families like ours. I’m no runner, but I’ll push through every kilometre for James and families like ours.
PLEASE DONATE!
If you can, please donate. You’ll be helping give children like James the best possible start in life — and that means the world to us.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% will support research under Prof Josef Gacz aiming to develop new treatments for rare childhood brain disorders causing epilepsy.
We would be incredibly grateful for your support!
